Position Summary:
The Director of Cytogenetics is responsible for providing clinical consultation to the clinical laboratory within her/his area(s) of expertise which will maximize quality patient care and ensure continuous business growth throughout the Laboratories. Performs all necessary tasks involved in the processing of patient samples, with accuracy and efficiency, essential to render a diagnosis and/or prognosis of acquired and inherited cytogenetic and or molecular genetic oncology disorders/diseases.
Provides professional consultations for on-site pathologists and referring physicians, consultation for genetics send-out cases and assists assay validation and improvement, quality assurance/quality improvement, training/competency and continuing education programs. Assists oversight of the internal and external (i.e., CLIA, CAP, CA and NY State) proficiency testing and inspection.
This is a director position responsible for the Cytogenetics laboratory for the site assigned to them.
Experience & Required Qualifications:
- Requires a Ph.D., DO or MD
- Six or more years of Clinical Lab experience as a Director in assigned specialty. Must meet all licensing as required by CLIA or Director accreditation from a national certifying agency.
- CA Director/Scientist License, American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) Board Certified in Clinical Cytogenetics or Laboratory Genetics & Genomics OR in Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
- Must possess excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, and be fluent in English. Must be able to express opinions clearly and concisely.
- Must be able to deal tactfully with clients and co-workers.
