The Sankofa Cafe is a Montclair cafe that opened in the summer of 2024! The coffee shop is located at 319 Orange Road in the Southend of Montclair.
About me:
My name is Jessica Troupe, and I own Sankofa Cafe.
My goal for my cafe business is twofold:
#1: to bring a quality coffee service to the Southend of Montclair
and
#2: to be a business invested in this community. Sankofa Cafe offers ethically sourced, fair-trade coffee, teas, and smoothies. I also provide treats baked in-house and other locally baked goods.
Job Overview:
I seek a skilled and customer-oriented Barista to join our team. As a barista, you will prepare and serve various hot and cold beverages and provide excellent customer service. If you are passionate about coffee and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, I would love to hear from you.
Duties:
- MUST have knowledge of the preparation of a wide range of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, tea, and specialty drinks
-Assist with food preparation and handling, such as making sandwiches or pastries
- Take customer orders and provide recommendations based on their preferences
- Operate various coffee-making equipment, such as espresso machines and grinders
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the coffee bar area and public use spaces like bathrooms and seating areas.
- Handle cash transactions and operate the cash register
- Maintain inventory of supplies and restock as needed
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving any issues that may arise
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of coffee preparation techniques and different types of coffee beans is a MUST
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Proficient in retail math for cash handling and transactions
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Basic food-handling knowledge to ensure proper hygiene and safety standards are met
- Time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively during busy periods
- Familiarity with operating a cash register or point-of-sale system
- Basic math skills for measuring ingredients and calculating order totals
- Previous experience in the food service or retail industry is preferred
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with the entire Sankofa team
