Job Summary
The Fabrication Manager is responsible for overseeing all fabrication operations to ensure production goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and with the highest quality standards. This role leads a team by providing training, mentorship, and professional development, while coordinating production schedules, optimizing processes, and driving continuous improvement across safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The Fabrication Manager serves as a critical liaison between production, engineering, quality, and maintenance departments.
Essential Functions
- Oversee daily fabrication operations including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow coordination.
- Lead, train, and develop fabrication staff to meet performance, safety, and quality objectives.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Supervise fabrication of components per engineering drawings and specifications.
- Monitor key production metrics (efficiency, yield, scrap, downtime) and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams to resolve design, process, and quality issues.
- Maintain equipment, tooling, and work areas to ensure readiness and compliance with 5S standards.
- Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct root cause analysis and lead process improvements to enhance throughput and reduce costs.
- Manage departmental budgets, labor costs, and material usage to meet financial targets.
- Support new product introductions through process development and manufacturability reviews.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Set and track departmental goals aligned with company objectives.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiency.
- Promote a positive work environment and support team members in achieving their best performance.
- Address employee concerns and resolve conflicts in coordination with Human Resources.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure cohesive operations and policy compliance.
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and career growth.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA safety standards, PPE requirements, and ISO regulations.
- Approve and manage timekeeping records in the company’s timekeeping system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in fabrication or manufacturing operations, including 3 years in a formal leadership role.
- Strong background in plastic or metal fabrication, welding, bonding, machining, or assembly environments.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, manage performance, and resolve conflicts.
- In-depth knowledge of fabrication processes such as cutting, welding, bending, forming, machining, and assembly.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Skilled in data interpretation, reporting, and data-driven decision-making.
- Proactive mindset with a focus on identifying improvement opportunities and driving change.
