The Sangamon County Department of Public Health is seeking applicants to perform duties primarily as a Health Educator. These duties include:

· Design education materials

· Develop classroom curriculum

· Develop and maintain relationships with agencies and schools

· Manage logistics for programs including survey administration, data collection, incentive distribution and reporting

Utilize Microsoft Office suite and other applications to develop handouts, presentations, and other relevant products for the health education program

Assist the Food Program Manager/Assistant Environmental Health Director and Director of Environmental Health in developing, and preparing educational materials for various Environmental Health Programs including but not limited to food safety, solid waste disposal, private sewage systems, mosquito control, private wells

Have the ability to become certified to teach the Certified Food Protection Managers Course and proctor the exam

Prepare and perform Environmental Health Presentations, with direction and oversight from the Food Program Manager/Assistant Environmental Health Director and Director of Environmental Health, on various Environmental Health topics at various locations in Sangamon and Menard Counties for a variety audiences including but not limited to school children, restaurant staff, food vendors, community groups, oversight boards, etc.

The work assigned to this position may not include all possible tasks in this description and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks for this position.

This position is covered by Laborer’s Local #477 Union

Required Qualifications:

  • A valid Class D Illinois Driver’s License
  • Applicants must be a resident of Sangamon County or be willing to move into the County within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to use personal automobile with proof of current insurance
  • Bachelor’s degree in health education, behavioral or biological science
  • Must work evenings and weekends as assigned
  • Strong public speaking, communication, and writing skills

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with website maintenance and social media
  • Secondary language skills
  • Experience in health education
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
