Summary
The Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Coordinator in maintaining Sandy Spring Museum's buildings, grounds, and equipment. The successful candidate will be expected to perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks independently while becoming familiar with the Museum's facilities, vendors, maintenance schedules, and operational procedures. Over time, this position will assume increasing responsibility for coordinating maintenance operations with the goal of preparing for the Maintenance Coordinator position.
Primary Responsibilities
The Maintenance Assistant helps maintain Sandy Spring Museum's buildings, grounds, and equipment in a safe, clean, and functional condition. Responsibilities include:
Performing general maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, landscaping, and other facility needs.
Performing routine maintenance, including changing HVAC filters, seasonal grounds maintenance, snow removal, cleaning public areas, and other preventative upkeep.
Conducting regular inspections of the Museum's buildings and grounds to identify maintenance or safety concerns and reporting issues to the Maintenance Coordinator.
Working collaboratively with Museum staff, volunteers, contractors, and studio artists to support Museum operations.
Requirements
The successful candidate should have experience performing general building maintenance and be able to work independently. The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds regularly (100 pounds occasionally), using hand and power tools, climbing ladders, and working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
This position begins at 8–10 hours per week. As the employee becomes familiar with the Museum's facilities and operations, there is the opportunity to assume additional administrative and coordination responsibilities and advance into the 20–25 hour/week Maintenance Coordinator position.
