We are looking for an experienced sports journalist and general reporter seeking a rewarding community-driven role in a sports-rich region with a strong local following in Crestview, Fla.
What You’ll Cover:
- High School Sports: Football, Basketball, Baseball, Track and Field, Volleyball, Golf, Softball, Cross Country, Swimming and Diving, Wrestling, Tennis, and more.
- Community Interest Stories
- Summer Sports and profiles on notable athletes.
This individual must have a strong understanding of sports and be enthusiastic about highlighting the athletic achievements of local youth. Their writing should be accurate, clear, informative and engaging for our readers. They would develop and maintain strong contacts in the community to help with the news gathering process — community outreach is a must — and keep track of the various teams’ schedules to ensure all major games and events are covered.
Photography and social media use is a requirement for this position.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional journalism experience at a daily or weekly newspaper, and strong ability to demonstrate proficiency in a high-paced newsroom
- A strong background in multi-sport coverage and deadline reporting, capable of producing 9-10 articles per week.
- Enthusiastic about hyper-local storytelling, both in print and digital
- Comfortable juggling game coverage, feature writing and photography
- Driven, collaborative and community-minded
· Able to produce features such as player profiles and season previews, as well as occasionally being assigned to take photos at community events and write breaking news stories or non-sports features.
