Shift Schedule: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Location: Troy, Alabama
Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting production operations, environmental compliance, and quality assurance by conducting laboratory analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods. This role ensures that all testing is performed accurately and promptly to aid operational decisions and uphold product quality standards.
The technician utilizes established laboratory methods and equipment to perform analytical testing, prepares and processes samples, maintains precise records, and communicates findings to appropriate personnel. Work is primarily conducted in the laboratory within the Administrative Building and requires strict adherence to safety protocols, quality systems, and regulatory guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform spectral analysis on production and furnace samples using arc spark spectroscopy
- Conduct post-casting analysis to confirm material composition
- Prepare and analyze lead and plastic samples using ICP methods when qualified
- Perform plastic recovery testing and additional material evaluations as needed
- Prepare and analyze filter cake and slag samples for process and environmental monitoring
- Conduct TCLP testing when trained and authorized
- Perform SO₂ calibration procedures to support emissions monitoring systems
- Carry out wastewater monitoring and environmental compliance testing
- Prepare samples through digestion and proper laboratory handling techniques
- Accurately document and report test results following established procedures
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments as required
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab in accordance with 6S standards
- Communicate results and relevant information to supervisors or designated personnel
- Complete additional tasks as assigned to support laboratory operations

- Ability to follow laboratory procedures, safety standards, and company policies
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform precise analytical work
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical instructions and written procedures
- Basic math and computer skills for data entry and reporting
- Effective communication skills with supervisors and team members
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on maintaining accurate documentation
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is primarily performed in a laboratory setting within the Administrative Building
- Occasional exposure to chemicals, reagents, and industrial materials
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and handling of lab equipment
- Ability to lift up to 65 pounds above waist level one to two times per shift
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, eye protection, lab coat, and respiratory protection as needed
- Must comply with OSHA regulations, environmental standards, and company safety policies
Training Requirements
- Completion of new hire orientation
- Completion of laboratory-specific on-the-job training
- Completion of required safety, environmental, and compliance training
- Additional training as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to work night shifts and occasional weekends
- Reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or industrial setting
- Experience with spectroscopic or analytical testing equipment
- Familiarity with ICP or similar instrumentation
- Experience in environmental or quality control testing
