Position Overview
The Collections Specialist is responsible for managing accounts receivable and collection activities related to Medicaid claims for a home health care agency. This role ensures accurate and timely follow-up on outstanding balances, resolves claim denials, and works directly with payers to secure payment while maintaining compliance with Medicaid rules and home health regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding Medicaid claims
- Research and resolve denied, rejected, or underpaid claims
- Submit corrected claims and appeals within required timeframes
- Communicate with Medicaid, managed care plans, and third-party payers regarding payment status
- Verify patient eligibility and benefits as needed to resolve claim issues
- Review documentation for billing accuracy and compliance with Medicaid policies
- Maintain detailed and accurate collection notes in billing systems/EMR
- Work closely with billing, intake, and clinical teams to resolve documentation or authorization issues
- Generate and review monthly collection and A/R reports
- Assist with cash posting reconciliation and payment posting review
- Protect confidential patient and financial information in accordance with HIPAA
- Meet or exceed collection goals and productivity standards
Qualifications
- Prior experience in medical collections or revenue cycle required
- Previous experience with Medicaid home health or long-term care billing strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Medicaid billing rules, codes, prior authorization, and appeals
- Experience working with EMR/billing software (WellSky, HHAeXchange, etc., a plus)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional billing/coding education preferred

Pay: $20.00 per hour
