Position overview
The Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) will provide both group and individual counseling to adults in treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions. This role is designed for a seasoned clinician able to manage a consistent caseload, collaborate in a multidisciplinary team, and support strong outcomes in a PHP/IOP or outpatient level of care.[flcertificationboard]
Key responsibilities
- Facilitate five (5) therapeutic group sessions per week, Monday through Friday, using evidence-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented approaches.[flcertificationboard]
- Provide twenty (20) individual counseling sessions per week, including ongoing assessment, treatment planning, crisis intervention as needed, and discharge planning.[flcertificationboard]
- Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and complete regular reviews and updates.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically sound documentation in the electronic health record, consistent with payer, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with psychiatry, nursing, case management, and spiritual care to coordinate holistic treatment for each patient.
- Provide psychoeducation to patients and families regarding addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, and co-occurring mental health issues.
- Participate in team meetings, case consultations, and utilization review as assigned.
Minimum qualifications
- Current Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) credential (or equivalent state-recognized addiction certification/licensure), in good standing.[flcertificationboard]
- At least 10 years of experience providing substance use and/or co-occurring disorder counseling, including both group and individual therapy in treatment settings (PHP, IOP, residential, or outpatient).[flcertificationboard]
- Demonstrated experience with evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT-informed skills, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, and 12-step facilitation.
- Strong skills in documentation, boundaries, ethics, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Comfort working with faith-informed/Christian clients while respecting all backgrounds and beliefs.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in a CARF- or Joint Commission-accredited program.
- Experience with higher-acuity or complex co-occurring presentations.
- Familiarity with managed care/insurance-driven environments and productivity expectations.
