Sanctuary Christian Reformed Church (CRC) is a 17 year old church that is seeking to be rooted in Christ, for the flourishing of our neighbors. Up until the pandemic, we met in Taproot Theatre in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle. We are currently meeting for worship at United Evangelical Free Church (just west of Greenwood in the Crown Hill neighborhood) where our church offices and PATH preschool are also located. We sing old and new songs, we are young and old people, engineers and artists, quite a few kids, and we believe Jesus is Lord. We value creativity and the arts as a meaningful and necessary avenue to knowing and worshiping God; Father, Son, & Holy Spirit.
Sanctuary was started in October 2004 as part of a CRC church planting movement, and for many years we operated The Green Bean, a non-profit coffee shop located in the Greenwood neighborhood that gave practical shape and influence over how we engaged with and loved our neighbors. After changing locations several times it ultimately closed in January of 2019. In 2016, Sanctuary took over the operation of PATH Preschool, a single classroom, 20 student preschool that operates four half days a week and employs one lead and two assistant teachers. In addition to these endeavors, Sanctuary sees the various daily vocations of our people as the primary places where we join God in seeking the flourishing of our neighbors.
