Duties

  • Design and implement comprehensive social studies curricula that incorporate current events, historical analysis, and cultural understanding.
  • Develop lesson plans that utilize instructional design principles and incorporate digital learning tools to support diverse learning styles.
  • Employ effective classroom management strategies to create an inclusive, respectful environment conducive to active participation.
  • Assess student progress through standardized testing, project evaluations, and formative assessments; provide timely feedback to support growth.
  • Mentor students by offering academic advising and personalized tutoring sessions to address individual learning needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and participate in curriculum development initiatives aligned with educational standards such as AP style and Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to research methods, literacy education, and the integration of learning technology into teaching practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred with higher education teaching experience.
  • Proven classroom experience teaching social studies at the middle or high school level; private school experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment strategies including standardized testing protocols.
  • Familiarity with AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, copy editing, proofreading, and journalistic writing techniques.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and implementing behavior management strategies effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with organizational skills necessary for lesson planning and classroom administration.
  • Knowledge of learning technology platforms and digital tools used for instruction and research purposes.
  • Skills in mentoring students, supporting literacy education initiatives, and providing academic advising are highly valued.
