POSITION TITLE Bartender

PRIMARY PLACE Bar, back bar, food & beverage, restaurants, wine cellar, storage areas

OF WORK

SUMMARY Consistently provides prompt, courteous service of all beverages and food for guests at the bar, as well as providing all beverages and wine for dining room and bistro service personnel as printed on order ticket. Properly prepare espresso-based beverages as ordered. Interacts with and serves guests food, beverages and wine in a professional and friendly manner, to ensure guest satisfaction to SYRservice standards.

SPECIFICATIONS

Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the employee must possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential: 1. High school graduate

2. 3 years bartending experience in a luxury hotel or restaurant

3. Thorough knowledge and understanding of mixed drinks, wine pairings

4. Must be 21 years of age (to serve alcoholic beverages)

5. Must be able to fluently speak and understand English

6. Computer literate on POS service systems

7. Certification in TIPS alcohol awareness program

8. ServSafe Food Handlers Certificate

Desirable: 1. A Bartenders’ School Certificate is preferred

2. Knowledge of local and California wines

3. Knowledge of a foreign language (French or Spanish preferred)

SKILLS

1. Familiarity with preparation of most cocktail beverages, including proper garnishes, correct glassware per beverage and ingredient ratios

2. Possess speed, accuracy, and attention to detail

3. Anticipate guests needs

4. Able to multitask in a high pressure environment

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1. Prepare all beverages and food ordered by guests promptly and professionally

2. Check identification to confirm age of any guest who appears to be under age 30, in compliance with ABC liquor laws

3. Maintain and practice current TIPS training; monitor alcohol consumption and behavior of guests; alert a manager of any intoxicated guests or guests exhibiting inappropriate behavior

4. Ensure all glassware is clean and without soap residue, fingerprints, lipstick, spots or chips

5. Ensure that glass washer detergents for three compartment washing sinks are filled with correct chemicals at correct temperature; replenish as needed

6. Promptly and accurately retrieve and serve premium wines from wine cellar

7. Maintain current knowledge of all wine inventory and wines offered by the glass

8. Knowledge and maintenance of all wine, liquor, supply and beer pars

9. Participates with monthly inventories to ensure complete and accurate inventories and supplies

10. Accurately completes liquor, beer, pouring wine, waters and other beverage supply requisitions, including service bar

11. Maintains clean and sanitary conditions of bar, back bar, storage areas and beer coolers at

12. Property sanitize blenders, strainers, knives, spoons, pour spouts and other utensils

13. Maintain thorough and current knowledge of all hotel management and guest services policies, features and hours of operation

14. Promote positive relations with guests and employees

15. Maintain confidentiality and security of specified Ranch information

SECONDARY DUTIES

1. Provide bar back with clear instruction of priorities to be completed

2. Report to manager upon arrival; take appropriate meal and rest breaks; punch in and out accurately

3. Familiar with internal policies, work schedule and all outlet menus

4. Completes all side work as required in a timely manner prior, during and at the end of the shift

5. Pick up bar food in the kitchen as required

6. Ensures general cleanliness and order of the entire bar and sink area, including bar, sinks, counters, bottles and appliances

7. Set-up for any specialized services scheduled (receptions), opens bottles of wine and champagne as needed; gathers appropriate glassware, garnishes, plates and napkins

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL

REQUIREMENTS Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, reach overhead, walk up and down stairways carrying trays of food and/or beverage, flexible wrist and hand use, be able to grasp, and endure wet hands/arms on a frequent basis, see (or smell) appropriate liquors and liquids, speak and operate a telephone and POS computer

CLASSIFICATION This position is classified NON-EXEMPT in connection with State and Federal overtime regulations.
