San Miguel County Human Services is looking for a Caseworker – Generalist to help ensure the safety, stability, and well-being of children, vulnerable adults, and families in our community. This role provides a full range of social casework services in Child Welfare and Adult Protection, from crisis intervention to long-term case planning.

What You'll Do

• Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, or youth-in-conflict situations.
• Assess client needs, create case plans, and coordinate services.
• Arrange and supervise foster care or other out-of-home placements.
• Provide court testimony and prepare reports/recommendations.
• Offer community education on Child Welfare and Adult Protection topics.
• Maintain detailed records in State systems (Trails Legacy, CAPS).
• Participate in after-hours on-call rotation for emergencies.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Knowledge of child welfare and adult protection laws, resources, and best practices.
• Strong communication, crisis intervention, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and build trust with clients.
• Colorado Child Welfare or Adult Protection certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months).
• Valid Colorado driver’s license and clean driving record.
