What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professional Development and Internships Manager position at San Manuel?
This role is client-focused to ensure that professional development programs are aligned and implemented in accordance to the Tribe’s strategic objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Leads in the successful execution of professional development frameworks in terms of design, delivery and evaluation, including:
Identifies and implements new professional development program ideas. Monitors current Tribal professional development programs, identifies and implements program improvements, and reports frequently on progress, accomplishments, and challenges.
Partners with other departments, such as Education and Tribal Community Services, on long-range programs, including the creation of job opportunities exclusively for the San Manuel Tribal Community.
Creates and facilitates workshops for the Tribal Community on development topics such as resume writing, interviewing, and what to expect during the hiring process.
Maintains current reports and dashboards on professional development programs which may include current and past participation, trends, program to hire rate, completion rate, and departments of interest trends.
Develops professional development policies and procedures.
2. Serves as the internship program manager for the San Manuel Tribal Community and external candidates including:
Serves as the Human Resources (HR) contact for all active participants of the San Manuel Internship Program.
Partners with Talent Acquisition in support of their college recruiting efforts. Works with internal HR stakeholders to develop accurate job descriptions. Ensures the marketing, recruiting, and onboarding of participants and interns is a smooth process with a high level of customer service.
Regularly meets with program participants and host departments for the duration of the program. Monitors for accurate timekeeping and program tracking.
Compiles evaluations on participants and host departments and reports this information as requested.
Works with departments to co-design comprehensive internships to attract developing talent that creates a pipeline of new professionals for future employment opportunities. Prepares departments to host San Manuel Tribal Community participants and external interns through workshops and readiness planning. Develops and implements strategies that create consistency and standardization among all departments.
3. Supports Tribal Brand Marketing efforts to maintain a comprehensive and robust Tribal Community website with program details, updates, job openings, participant highlights, and other relevant information.
4. Other responsibilities, duties, tasks and assignments that contribute to the mitigation or response to public health emergencies.
5. Other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or related field is required.
Master’s degree is preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years prior work experience developing, promoting, and managing internship/professional learning opportunities.
Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
Previous direct or indirect management experience is preferred.
Operations experience is preferred.
Excellent managerial, interpersonal and communication skills.
Possesses a solid understanding of adult learning theory and instructional design methodology.
Holds project manager level standards to manage programs including strong capabilities in reporting, metrics and insights.
Is highly skilled in the “Yes, and…” style of communication and customer service while adept at simultaneously managing expectations and clearly communicating “No, but” when appropriate.
Can effectively manage several “Level 1” priorities with poise and professionalism, while meeting all required deadlines.
Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to effectively manage changes in project scope, timelines and priorities.
Can demonstrate experience in handling confidential and sensitive information without reaction and judgement and experience in safeguarding the same.
Can successfully manage a multitude of projects and close on deliverables on time and on budget.
Possesses strong collaboration skills, both with peers and external partners.
Is able to build successful partnerships through influence and character.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) is preferred.
