Job Summary
As a vital part of the SLO Classical Academy team, the Learning Specialist will help us grow our student support program, overseeing accommodations for students with learning differences, in line with the unique qualities of the school. They are expected to be team players, committed to collaborating with students, teachers, and families to nurture students’ passion for learning in the face of learning differences. Exempt, full-time employee status, salaried Monday-Friday, year round; Summer may provide some flexibility. Reports to the Lower School Director qualifications E D U C A T I O N E X P E R I E N C E Bachelor’s degree required Master’s degree in Education or Special Education or Certified in Educational Therapy highly desired Minimum 5 years of experience supporting K-8 students with learning differences Proficiency in office applications (i.e., Google, Pages, Excel, etc.) Classically trained or educated desirable C O R E C O M P E T E N C I E S Willing to learn about and support the mission of SLO Classical Academy (to be a community that forges character, fosters wisdom, and nurtures a lifelong passion for learning!) Strong written and verbal communication for report-writing and student-family meetings Proficient knowledge of federal and state laws regarding students with disabilities, including Section 504 and IDEA Theoretical and practical understanding of working with students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, auditory processing, ADHD, 2E, and/or ASD duties responsibilities B U I L D I N G S T U D E N T S U P P O R T P R O G R A M Work with SLOCA leadership in identifying needs and building both short- and long-term plans for providing support for divergent learners. S U P P O R T I N G S T U D E N T S F A M I L I E S Facilitate intake meetings with students, their family, their teacher(s), and any additional resource providers when known challenges and/or a 504/IEP, understand students’ learning n
