Job Summary

The San Luis Coastal Unified School District is seeking two Band Instructional Assistants at San Luis Obispo High School. This is a part-time position, approximately 5 hours per week. Work hours may be during, before, or after the school day, dependent on the program assigned. Band Instructional Assistants provide specialized instructional support in the Band Program at the secondary level by delivering instrument-specific or section-specific coaching, performance guidance, and technical instruction to individual students and small groups. Band Instructional Assistants assist the Band Director by teaching skills, techniques, and performance practices that require specialized musical expertise and by supporting cohesive ensemble performance across approximately fourteen instrument families, percussion, visual marching, and/or color guard. Qualified candidates will possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position, and will preferably have experience working with school-age children in a music program.

NCLB Compliance: Candidates must possess ONE of the following: A college transcript showing an AA degree or 48 semester units, OR a certificate showing a passing score on a NCLB Paraprofessional Exam. (If you do not meet this requirement, but meet other screening criteria, you will be invited to take the NCLB exam.) Submitting a complete and thorough application is one of the minimum qualification requirements to proceed in the recruitment process. The start date for this position is anticipated to be September 14, 2026, contingent upon successful completion of a livescan/fingerprint clearance, TB clearance, online trainings, online onboarding, presentation of a valid driver's license (if required for the position assigned), and validation of I-9 documents. Candidates who submit applications that pass minimum qualifications screening will be notified of their eligibility to proceed in the recruitment process, which may include a written exam, and/or oral board interview exam, and a hiring interview (for the top three ranks of candidates). Candidates who pass the exam(s) will be added to an eligibility list. The eligibility list may be used to fill vacancies in the classification that occur over a six-month period. Anticipated timeline for the recruitment: June 25, 2026 - Application Deadline June 26, 2026 - Eligibility notifications sent through EDJoin July 02, 2026 - Exam and/or Oral Board Interviews TBD - Hiring interviews for top three ranks of candidates SPECIAL NOTES: 1) Correctly filling out forms and following other instructions contained in this notice are part of the testing process. 2) Applicants with disabilities need to notify the Human Resources Office of any special needs so that adequate preparation may be made for their testing. 3) Veterans qualifying for the oral board examination may receive 5 additional points added to their final score if proof of discharge is submitted at time of oral board interview. A "veteran" as used here means any person who served in the United States armed forces or National Guard in time of war, or national emergency. 4) Eligibility lists are established for a period of six months from the qualifying interviews.
