Position Title: Kindergarten Teacher
Reports To: Principal Martinez-Precious
Location: San Juan Diego Academy, Wyoming, MI
Position Summary
The Kindergarten Teacher at San Juan Diego Academy is responsible for creating a faith-filled,
nurturing, and academically engaging classroom environment that supports the spiritual,
intellectual, social, and emotional development of young learners. The teacher integrates
Catholic values and teachings into all aspects of instruction while fostering a love of learning in
alignment with diocesan standards and curriculum guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Catholic Identity and Mission
● Actively support and model the mission and philosophy of Catholic education.
● Incorporate Catholic teachings, values, and traditions into daily lessons and classroom
culture.
● Lead students in prayer and participate in school liturgies, Masses, and religious activities.
● Foster a respectful, inclusive, and faith-centered classroom community.
Instruction and Curriculum
● Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with diocesan curriculum standards.
● Teach foundational skills in literacy, math, science, religion, and social studies.
● Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
● Integrate technology and hands-on learning experiences to enhance student engagement.
● Assess student progress regularly and use data to inform instruction.
Classroom Environment
● Establish a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment.
● Promote social-emotional development, including cooperation, responsibility, and respect.
● Implement effective classroom management strategies consistent with school policies.
Student Support and Growth
● Recognize and respond to individual student needs, including academic and behavioral support.
● Collaborate with support staff, specialists, and administration as needed.
● Encourage independence, curiosity, and confidence in young learners.
Communication and Collaboration
● Maintain open, professional communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and well-being.
● Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school events, and family engagement activities.
● Collaborate with colleagues to support school-wide initiatives and continuous improvement.
Professional Responsibilities
● Uphold all diocesan policies, including those related to child safety and professional conduct.
● Participate in ongoing professional development and faith formation.
● Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
● Fulfill duties such as supervision, meetings, and other assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education (required).
● Valid Michigan teaching certification (required).
● Practicing Catholic preferred; must support the mission of Catholic education.
● Knowledge of early childhood development and best instructional practices.
● Strong classroom management and communication skills.
● Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred to support the school community.
Working Conditions
● Full-time position following the academic school year calendar.
● Classroom-based role with responsibilities that may include recess, lunch, or arrival/dismissal supervision.
