Job Description
TITLE: Educational Interpreter
Salary Table: 2025-2026 San Juan BOCES Salary Tables
QUALIFICATIONS: Current Colorado Department of Education’s Authorization: Educational Interpreter, credentials
to obtain Authorization: Educational Interpreter (including an AA degree, a 3.5 score on the EIPASkills Assessment,
and a passing score on the EIPA-Written Test).
JOB GOAL: To provide quality interpreting and/or transliterating services, facilitate communications, and foster
students’ academic and social development in the educational environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide interpreting and/or transliterating services for Deaf/HH and hearing in the educational
environment (classrooms, parent meetings, field trips, assemblies, instruction with special service
providers, IEP meetings, etc.).
2. Facilitate communications through the use of sign language, spoken English, cultural mediation, and
knowledge about visual accessibility.
3. Foster students’ academic and social development as appropriate to the student’s age and the academic
setting.
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT:
1. The educational interpreter is, first and foremost, a member of the educational team and the school
community and should follow school and district guidelines and policies for professional behavior and
conduct. These should be interfaced with EIPA’s Guidelines of Professional Conduct for Educational
Interpreters.
2. The educational interpreter should continue to develop knowledge and skills and should strive to maintain
high professional standards.
LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: Follows the school calendar.
SALARY: Based on years of experience and authorization/certification.
SUPERVISOR: Supervised by the Executive Exceptional Student Services Director.
