Job Summary
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under supervision of the Special Education Director II, teacher of the Visual Impaired will provide quality education to students with visual impairments, ages birth though 22 years, through a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student programs; an appropriate, community based curriculum; communication and social skill development; inter-district cooperation, and a strong parent-teacher-student linkage. Opportunities exist to develop and experiment with adaptive technology; implement best practices, and integrate with non-handicapped populations and general education populations.
This position is represented by the California Teachers Association.

Essential Functions
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare student education plans in consultation with parents and IEP team members.
- Design instruction and record progress of students.
- Act to ensure appropriate IEP implementation in area of service, direct work of instructional assistants and support members of the IEP team.
- Monitor delivery and frequency of Visually Impaired related service.
- Maintain appropriate student data and other records and submit reports as required.
- Develop instructional plans when necessary and appropriate.
- Develop learning systems for use in community and campus settings.
- Manage student caseloads across multiple school settings.
- Articulate curriculum between and among student levels.
- Basic knowledge of Orientation & Mobility skills and programming.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in appropriate field.
- Be eligible for or possess a valid California Visual Impairments (VI) Education Specialist teaching credential.
