Essential Job Functions
- Assist the Director, SHERM to conduct inspections of campus laboratories and facilities, evaluating work areas and practices for proper safety controls
- Assist the Director, SHERM to develop and provide safety trainings for faculty and staff, including hazard communication, general safety, materials handling; create customized training for unique hazardous operations
- Assist the Director, SHERM with coordination of the hazardous waste/materials management program
- Assist the Director, SHERM with using Campus Optics software to maintain and manage safety equipment like safety showers and eyewashes, chemical fume hoods, biological safety cabinets, and AEDs
- Investigate incidents and accidents.
- Represent the College in any trainings, meetings or public outreach efforts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have knowledge of health and safety standards
- Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software products.
- Must be able to work safely in an environment containing hazardous chemicals using personal protective equipment/safety measures
- Must have ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals and maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Must have strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Must be able to travel to various site locations
Required Education:
- Currently enrolled in an associate degree program or higher in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational/ Environmental Health and Safety, or Related Science.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational/ Environmental Health and Safety, or Related Science.
- Previous experience in safety, industrial hygiene, emergency management, or related field.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Texas DL with Class C Endorsement.
- Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
