Essential Duties

The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.

As the S22 Licensed Vocational Nurse Paraprofessional, you will:

  • Implement specialized healthcare procedures, including but not limited to diabetic monitoring, catheterization, blood pressure monitoring, oral suctioning, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy tube feeding and reinsertion, oxygen therapy, chest percussion, postural drainage, ventilator care, manual manipulation of respirator bag, ileostomy and colostomy care, and seizure precaution and response.
  • Assures that all procedures are provided under specified protocols approved by an authorized healthcare provider and school district nurse with parent/guardian consent, and within the LVN scope of practice.
  • Responds to medical emergencies and emergency care plans as designated by the school district nurse, parent/guardian and authorized healthcare provider, within the LVN scope of practice.
  • Reports adverse student responses to treatment to the school district nurse and implements health-related actions per the student’s IEP/IFSP care plans and within the LVN scope of practice.
  • Administers prescribed medications according to policies and procedures.
  • Records healthcare procedures on a daily log.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


The strongest candidates will have:


  • Knowledge of skilled vocational nursing practices and procedures, including but not limited to: first aid, CPR, administration of medications, specialized healthcare procedures and techniques, infection control procedures, hazardous waste management, and recordkeeping and reporting requirements within the LVN scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile
  • Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization
  • A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • A flexible, “can do” work ethic with a focus on identifying challenges and proactively working to find solutions while maintaining a bigger picture lens and focus on what can be delivered instead of what cannot be done
  • Excellent data analysis skills and experience synthesizing data to drive action steps
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with senior level district staff and colleagues
  • Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly communicate complex, bureaucratic processes to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to define and implement effective HR business practices
  • Ability to work effectively in difficult situations that involve confidential and sensitive matters
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)


Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • One of the following: Associate’s Degree or higher, 48 college units, passing of the CBEST, or passage of SFUSD equivalency test
  • Possession of a valid State of California License of Vocational Nursing
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate for healthcare providers
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid First Aid Certificate
