As the Samoan/Pacific Islander (SPI) Education Program Coordinator and liaison between SFUSD and SPI families you will report to the Supervisor of Access and Equity, participate in team assignments and will be a district leader in developing culturally response programs, projects and forums to encourage SPI Family/Community involvement in SPI students’ educational career. You will help to lead Access and Equity’s transformational work to deliver on the promises outlined in both Transform Learning. Transform Lives. as well as SFUSD’s long-term goals of Vision 2025. We want someone who is highly skilled in the development, facilitation and delivery of culturally responsive programs for Samoan/Pacific Islander Students which will serve students and their families in SFUSD.


  • Consults with and advises district management on ways to involve Samoan/Pacific Islander parents in the activities of the San Francisco Unified School District.
  • Attends school and community meetings to inform staff, parents and the community on district activities; contacts individuals and groups to disseminate information on district programs and activities; and responds to questions and requests from school sites, parents, organizations and community groups.
  • Organizes, implements and coordinates training workshops and seminars on strategies for parental involvement for administrators, school staff, resource personnel, parents and community organizations.
  • Addresses civic, faculty, service, parent, student and community groups as a district representative to explain Samoan/Pacific Islander programs; gives progress reports and provides information on these educational programs and services of the San Francisco Unified School District.
  • Investigates complaints from Samoan/Pacific Islander parents and the community related to a specific district program; recommends corrective action to preclude further adverse action or opinion; may prepare replies to such complaints; may provide counseling and referral services.
  • Prepares and assists in the preparation of periodic and annual reports related to public relations activities; maintains a current file on parent education and parent involvement material, community resource file and other records essential to an effective parent and community involvement program.
  • Provides information to parents in Samoan in order to improve home-school communications between the targeted schools and the community and to promote and enhance integration efforts.
  • Provides technical assistance to school sites and community groups for the establishment and development of Samoan/Pacific Islander parent education and parent involvement programs.
  • Supervises volunteer, clerical, and paraprofessional staff as required; may advise and train others in public and human relations problems and techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of college-level course work (30 semester units or 45 quarter units equal one year)
  • Two (2) years verifiable experience (one year = 2000 hours) of paid or volunteer work in the community with culturally, ethnically and socio-economically diverse populations, preferably in a school district setting. Such experience should include program planning and coordination.

  • Two years’ experience serving Samoan/Pacific Islander Youth and Community in San Francisco
  • Success in writing and gaining grants
  • Skilled working relationships with the Samoan Community Development Center, Samoan Solutions, Pacific Islander Collaboratives partners in San Francisco
  • Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile
  • A strong record of managing organizational change and initiating key innovations
  • Strong analytic and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
  • Experience developing and implementing talent management systems or systemic educational reform initiatives
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization
  • A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with senior level district staff and colleagues
  • Success leading effective teams and individuals
  • Experience and success with effective written and verbal communication, facilitation and presentations to large groups and a variety of audiences (e.g., staff meetings, executive briefings, public board meetings, memos)
  • Ability to define and advise effective HR business practices
  • Ability to work effectively in difficult situations that involve confidential and sensitive matters
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Google Suite, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $63,547.95 - $76,984.96 commensurate with experience in a similar position.
