The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin counties. We envision a community free of the root causes of hunger, where everyone has access to nutritious food of their choosing and is uplifted by a network of support.
Together with more than 300 community partners, we work to address hunger head-on through a coordinated network of neighborhood food pantries, CalFresh enrollment, home-delivered groceries, and policy and advocacy efforts. We work with our community to provide food for people facing hunger today while working to end the hunger of tomorrow. This fiscal year, we are serving 36,000 households per week. Who You Are:
To excel in this position, you will need to approach the work with the following habits and values:
- You are a certified forklift operator with passion for our mission to end hunger
- You have the proven ability to safely operate all types of warehouse equipment, including, but not limited to, pallet jacks, forklifts and dock levelers
- You have basic knowledge of food storage, handling and distribution procedures
- You have basic knowledge of computers, tablets and cell phone functionality
- Quick learner with the ability to carry out tasks effectively and independently
What You Would Be Accountable for:
The Warehouse Associate will be responsible for the following key pieces of work:
- Primary job responsibilities; assisting our Transportation team in the loading and unloading of freight and/or material handling equipment on or off trucks
- Organizing pallets in preparation for out-bound deliveries and handling all required documentation
- Operating pallet jack, forklift and other material handling equipment safely
- Support the over-the-counter check-out distribution of Food to our agency partners by assisting the Lead Distribution Clerk in the following:
- Using a computer to generate invoices to check out shoppers/agency partners and the completion of the invoicing process
- Provide the highest quality customer service to Food Bank member agencies in accordance with established Food Bank policies
- Maintain a positive demeanor while working in a diverse environment
- Ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, and agencies while in the warehouse/distribution areas
- Maintain stocking levels of distribution inventory. Stock and straighten merchandise on the Shop Floor shelves
What You Would Be Doing Right Now:
Operations:
- Organize and stage orders in preparation for distribution
- Organize, consolidate and stage SFP returns in preparation for transfer
- Verify actual number of pallets compared to count sheet
- Item spot check/quality control
- Working inside Freezer/cooler performing pallet counts with a temperature range of –10 degrees F. to 38 degrees F.
- Verify, by count, that high value protein items are accurate
- Loading and unloading of freight
- Transition to the SF-Marin’s Shop Floor to assist or backfill Lead Distribution Clerk at the direction of Operations management
- Assist in Recycle program at management’s request
- Performing daily equipment checks (Shop Floor cooler/freezer, etc.)
- Performs other duties and projects assigned and required by Operations management
Safety:
- Demonstrate adherence to safety through consistent actions in line with safety expectations and adherence to all related policies and procedures
- Follow work safety and food safety in adherence to SF-Marin Food Bank policies and procedures, standard operating procedures and federal/state regulations (Food Handling, AIB, DOSH and OSHA)
- Ability to read and understand safety procedures and warning signs, and to communicate clearly and effectively with customers and team members in emergency situations
What Else You Should Know:

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- A valid California driver’s license and a clean DMV printout is preferred but not required
- 2 years forklift experience is preferred
- 1 years warehouse experience
KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Ability to lift or carry 20–50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds frequently
- Basic computer skills required
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and take direction from multiple managers

POSITION COVERED BY OPEIU LOCAL 29 BARGAINING UNIT.
SALARY The position is non-exempt full-time. The starting salary for this position ranges from $25.62-26.42 with exact salary depending on experience.
