This individual will be part of the R&D team and focus on providing support to ongoing research projects while owning some small initiatives themselves. Position Responsibilities
- Actively participate in research initiatives within the Modeling, Research, and Performance Science Depts.
- Act as a thought partner in project design and methodology, offering careful consideration of factors like uncertainty, confounding variables, and signal-to-noise ratio.
- Prototype research outputs into lightweight tools and visualizations for use across Baseball Ops.
- Perform ad-hoc statistical analysis and quantitative research to support various areas of Baseball Ops.
- Own small-scale (or larger!) research projects and see them through to completion.
- Keep up-to-date on the frontier of public baseball research and AI tool integration to enhance workflows.
- Experience in a quantitative field, such as engineering, physical sciences, computer science, or applied math.
- Fluency in SQL and at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g. Python, R).
- Top-notch critical thinking skills, including ability to identify data issues; ability to articulate assumptions, limitations, and uncertainties in a process; and ability to distill complex topics into interpretable results.
- Passion and curiosity for baseball analytics.
- Strong work ethic with a voracious appetite to learn on the fly.
- Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to team culture.
- Experience with machine learning and/or computer vision is a plus.
