Behavioral Health Services (BHS) is seeking a visionary and operationally strong Medical Director to lead psychiatric services within the Office of Coordinated Care (OCC). This role provides clinical leadership across OCC programs, including Access, Care Coordination, and Street Health teams—serving individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, homelessness, and substance use disorders.
🔍 What You’ll Do
- Provides clinical and administrative direction and supervision to OCC and BHS Linkage Medication Support Services psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and other medical staff as assigned. Oversees the psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management of individuals served by OCC Psychiatric providers, with a focus on crisis stabilization, harm reduction, and engagement in ongoing care
- Supervise psychiatric staff and support interdisciplinary collaboration across SFDPH
- Provides direct patient care, which includes evaluating, diagnosing, and providing medication
- management, including medications for addiction treatment (MAT), to people at BHAC, on the
- street, and discharging from acute settings such as hospital and jail, in person and via telehealth.
- Assesses people for grave disability and refers for LPS conservatorship, as appropriate.
- In partnership with OCC leadership, develops, implements, and monitors clinical protocols,
- policies, and procedures for OCC programs, ensuring alignment with evidence-based practices,
- regulatory requirements, and ethical standards.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, regulatory standards, and ethical care delivery
âś… Minimum Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. with valid California medical license
- Board eligible or board certified in Psychiatry
- 5 years post-residency psychiatric experience, including substance use treatment

- Is a strong manager who is adaptable and has a strong collaborative management style, including experience with supervising psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff, and is a creative thinker with high energy and enthusiasm, and a team player who promotes the concepts of people working together versus individual performance
