The San Francisco Conservatory of Music seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered Community Engagement Manager to support and expand the SFCM's community engagement initiatives. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Professional Development & Engagement Center (PDEC), this part-time position combines teaching, program management, partnership development, and student mentorship.


The Community Engagement Manager will teach Professional Development (PDV) courses, oversee student internship placements, manage the Conservatory in Schools (CIS) program, and cultivate relationships with arts, education, and community organizations throughout the Bay Area. This individual will play a key role in helping students connect their artistic training to meaningful professional and civic engagement opportunities.


Key Responsibilities


Teaching & Student Development

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate PDV courses focused on community engagement, teaching artistry, professional development, and career readiness.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops, panels, and experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for professional success.
  • Mentor students as they explore careers in arts administration, education, performance, nonprofit leadership, and community-based artistic practice.
  • Support students in articulating the value of community engagement within their artistic and professional development.

Conservatory in Schools Program Leadership

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Conservatory in Schools program.
  • Coordinate partnerships with SFUSD K–12 schools and community organizations.
  • Recruit, train, and support student teaching artists and program participants.
  • Assist with program scheduling, logistics, assessment, and community partner communication.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the program's impact and reach.

Community Partnership Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with arts organizations, cultural institutions, educational partners, and community-based organizations throughout the Bay Area.
  • Represent SFCM at community meetings, events, and professional gatherings.
  • Identify opportunities for student engagement, collaborative projects, and institutional partnerships.
  • Serve as an ambassador for SFCM's mission of artistic excellence, innovation, and community impact.

Professional Development & Engagement Center (PDEC) Team Support

  • Serve as an active and collaborative member of the Professional Development & Engagement Center team, contributing to departmental initiatives and strategic priorities.
  • Assist with student-facing programs, events, workshops, guest artist activities, and special projects as needed. 
  • Support data collection, assessment, reporting, and administrative functions that contribute to departmental effectiveness and student success.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to advance experiential learning, career development, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Contribute to a positive, solutions-oriented team culture and assist colleagues during peak periods, special events, and departmental transitions.
  • Represent PDEC and SFCM professionally across campus and within the broader arts community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Arts Administration, Education, Music, Community Engagement, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Experience working in arts education, community engagement, higher education, nonprofit arts organizations, or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing programs, projects, or partnerships.
  • Experience teaching, facilitating workshops, or mentoring students.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Existing connections within the Bay Area arts, education, and nonprofit communities.
  • Knowledge of experiential learning, internship programs, and community-engaged arts practices.
  • Familiarity with music conservatory, higher education, or arts training environments.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and populations.

Position Details

  • Part-Time Position, approximately 15 hours per week
  • Hourly rate:  $26.00 to $32.00/hour, DOE
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Hybrid work opportunities available based on program needs
  • Compensation commensurate with experience
