Social Work - Imperial Valley Lecturer Pool - 2026-2027

San Diego State University
San Diego, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/5/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/3/2026
Description

The Division of Professional Studies at SDSU Imperial Valley is accepting applications for its 2026-2027 part-time lecturer pool. SDSU Imperial Valley is a college and branch campus of San Diego State University, situated approximately 120 miles from the main campus in San Diego, on the border with Mexico in Imperial County. For the 2026-2027 academic year, we are seeking lecturers with a graduate degree in Social Work (MSW) and a minimum of two years of postgraduate experience in the field. In addition to new applicants, existing SDSU Imperial Valley Social Work lecturers are required to reapply each year to be considered for appointment.

Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time. Appointments from the part-time pool are often made just before the start of the academic term, so applicants must be available on very short notice. The Fall term begins in mid-August and ends in late December; the Spring term begins in mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. Initial appointments are typically for one semester or one academic year and are renewable contingent upon satisfactory evaluations and the continuing availability of work. Applications will remain in our applicant pool for the academic year in which you submit your application.

Qualifications Criteria

  • Graduate degree in Social Work required from a CSWE-accredited MSW program for teaching social work practice courses and highly preferred for other teaching areas
  • At least two years of post-Masters related experience
  • Demonstrated currency in subject matter
  • University teaching experience preferred

We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups.

Application Instructions

Prospective temporary faculty who would like their applications on file are invited to send the following items:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Contact information for three (3) professional references (new employees only)
  • Unofficial transcripts for graduate degree (new employees only)
  • Sample syllabus (if available)
  • Cover letter of application (new employees only), responding to one of the three prompts below

Prompts

    • Teaching Approach and Inclusivity
Describe how your teaching philosophy and practices support student learning and engagement. How do you create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that fosters success for students from different backgrounds and experiences?

    • Research and Broader Impact
How does your research contribute to your field, and how do you envision it making a broader impact—whether through interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, or addressing societal challenges?

    • Mentorship and Academic Community
Describe your approach to mentorship and professional development for students and colleagues. How do you contribute to a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive academic community?

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range.

As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677

Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224

Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523

Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
