Description

The Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) in the Fowler College of Business at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Information Systems at the assistant professor level. The appointment will begin in August 2027 and is contingent on state funding. We are seeking candidates with teaching interest in Information Systems and research interest in the areas of Applied AI for Decision Support, Digital Innovation, or Supply Chain Management. The person holding this position will be responsible for developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in information systems.

The MIS Department is a multidisciplinary department with faculty members in the areas of information systems, data science, AI, cybersecurity, and supply chain management. MIS faculty are active in high-impact research and have engaged in grant-funded research supported by NSF, US Navy, US Air Force, US Department of Homeland Security, and US Department of Education. The James Silberrad Brown Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI), affiliated with the MIS Department, has been central to develop an active grant-funded research program.

The MIS Department offers the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) - Information Systems Emphasis, Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS), Master of Science in Cybersecurity Management (MSCM), Master of Science in Supply Chain Innovation (MSSCI), and MBA specializations in Information Systems degrees. The Fowler College of Business is accredited by AACSB (since 1959).

Qualifications

Required qualifications by date of application
  • A record of original research / scholarly / creative accomplishments and demonstrated capacity to a) develop a vigorous and independent program of research / scholarship / creative activity, b) teach graduate and undergraduate courses; and c) engage in both campus and professional service activities.
  • Demonstration of past accomplishments and/or future plans in at least two (2) or more of the “Building on Inclusive Excellence” criteria .

Required qualifications by date of hire
  • Terminal degree, a doctoral-level degree, in Information Systems or a related discipline by August 2027 with all degree requirements met.

Preferred qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in Information Systems and its methodologies
  • Strong record of publications, presentations, and/or funding
  • Potential for securing extramural funding
  • Outstanding teaching experience, including teaching students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to direct advanced undergraduate and/or graduate student research

The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated salary range is from $148,000 to $158,000. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances.
