About the Role

San Diego Seniors Community Foundation (SDSCF) is the only community foundation in the United States exclusively dedicated to older adults. We're seeking a Director of Elder Fraud Prevention and Financial Stability to lead the design, execution, and expansion of multi-market initiatives that protect older adults from financial exploitation, fraud, and abuse.

This is a national leadership role. You'll serve as a key public voice for SDSCF — engaging with media, funders, policymakers, and community partners — while overseeing program delivery across multiple cities. We're looking for someone with deep subject matter expertise, executive-level communication skills, and the ability to build systems that scale impact nationally. You'll be expected to develop a deep, ongoing understanding of the evolving methods used to defraud seniors and to grow into a recognized national leader in fraud prevention.

Reporting to the CEO, you'll manage travel and on-the-ground engagement across program locations, with an initial focus on communities including San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco, New York, Houston, Chicago, Miami, Washington D.C., St. Louis, Phoenix, and Sacramento. Frequent travel within California and across the continental U.S. is a core and ongoing part of this role.

What You'll Do

Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight

  • Set vision and strategy for elder financial protection and financial stability programming
  • Oversee program implementation and performance across multiple markets
  • Identify emerging fraud and scam trends and translate them into scalable strategies
  • Build and refine systems, tools, and processes to support program delivery and evaluation at scale
  • Partner with executive leadership on organizational strategy and thought leadership

External Relations & Public Leadership

  • Serve as primary spokesperson and public-facing leader on elder fraud and financial stability
  • Deliver presentations to seniors, funders, community organizations, and cross-sector partners
  • Shape clear, impactful messaging on financial vulnerability and elder protection

National Development & Geographical Outreach

  • Raise financial resources locally and nationally from donors, grantors, corporate sponsors, estate planning attorneys, and high-wealth gatekeepers
  • Cultivate relationships with stakeholders and influencers in cities nationwide to grow the initiative's footprint

Partnership & Coalition Building

  • Build local and national relationships with the FBI, law enforcement, city attorneys, local media, and regulatory entities
  • Lead cross-sector partnerships with nonprofits, financial institutions, government agencies, and community organizations
  • Foster inclusive, culturally responsive engagement across diverse communities

Grants, Compliance & Impact Reporting

  • Partner with the development team on grant strategy, proposals, and funder engagement
  • Ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements
  • Oversee tracking of deliverables, budgets, and outcomes
  • Lead preparation of reports for funders, government agencies, and the board

Operations & Team Leadership

  • Oversee multi-city program operations, including logistics, scheduling, and event execution
  • Supervise and mentor program staff and/or regional leads
  • Ensure clear internal reporting on program status, risks, and milestones
  • Manage travel and on-the-ground engagement across relevant program locations

What You Bring

Required

  • 8–12 years of experience in financial services, estate planning, elder law, consumer protection, or a related field; nonprofit leadership experience a plus
  • Demonstrated expertise in issues affecting older adults, including financial vulnerability and exploitation
  • Proven experience leading multi-site or national programs with measurable outcomes
  • Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills with large, diverse audiences
  • Strong executive presence with experience in a public-facing or spokesperson role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build systems and operational infrastructure
  • Experience building and managing cross-sector partnerships
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently within California and across the continental U.S.

Preferred

  • Experience working with law enforcement, regulatory agencies, or national advocacy organizations
  • Media training or significant press/PR experience
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Social Security, and related systems
  • Experience managing grant-funded programs, including compliance and reporting
  • Bilingual or multilingual capabilities

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or commensurate experience; master's degree highly desirable
  • Gerontology degree or certification a plus
