The Position
Purpose of Classification
The purpose of this classification is to provide participating youth, ages 16–18, with structured, hands-on work experience through the Mayor’s Albany 100 Summer Youth Work Program. This position supports workforce readiness by developing professional skills, financial literacy, and workplace expectations while assisting City departments with general operational and project-based assignments.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is a temporary, seasonal, part-time position with no benefits designed for high school students in Dougherty County. Assignments are duty-based rather than department-specific, allowing participants to gain exposure to various professional work environments while completing a structured program that includes work experience, literacy training, and project-based learning.

Workplace Participation & Support
- Performs entry-level administrative, clerical, or operational tasks as assigned.
- Assists staff with basic office or field duties to support departmental operations.
- Follows all instructions provided by supervisors and program coordinators.
- Demonstrates punctuality, reliability, and consistent attendance.
- Maintains professional behavior, appearance, and communication in the workplace.
- Complies with all City policies, procedures, and workplace expectations.
- Attends mandatory weekly Workforce Literacy sessions (Fridays).
- Participates in training related to:
- Professionalism and workplace expectations
- Financial literacy and budgeting
- Resume writing and interview skills
- Career exploration and goal setting
- Engages in discussions, activities, and networking opportunities.
- Completes a department-assigned project during the program.
- Demonstrates accountability, problem-solving, and initiative.
- Participates in project presentations, reflections, or evaluations.
- Maintains consistent attendance for scheduled workdays and program sessions.
- Accurately reports time and follows timekeeping procedures.
- Communicates appropriately with supervisors regarding absences or concerns.
- Must be enrolled in a Dougherty County public or private high school and between the ages of 16–18.
- Must commit to the full duration of the summer program.
- Must adhere to all program guidelines, including:
- Attendance requirements
- Participation in literacy sessions
- Completion of assigned work and projects
- Parent/guardian consent may be required for minors.
- Valid GA Driver’s License or GA State ID
- Verification of good standing from attending school, or the last quarter report card.
- Supervision Received: Direct supervision from assigned department staff and program coordinators.
- Supervision Exercised: None.
- Participates in program close-out activities, including resume development and reflection.
- Demonstrates growth in workplace readiness and communication skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Must be 16–18 years of age and currently enrolled in a Dougherty County high school, public or private.
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a structured environment.
- Basic communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn and participate in all program components.
- This is a seasonal, part-time position with no benefits, limited to the duration of the summer youth program.
- Work Schedule: 30 hours/week (Mon–Thurs: 8am–3pm or 9am–4pm; Fri: 8am–12pm or 9am–1pm)
- Program Duration: 8 weeks (June through July, exact dates will vary by the year)
- Classification: Temporary Seasonal / Internship (Non-benefited)
