What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Special Education Teacher - Friendship School position at San Diego County Office Of Education?
Friendship School is a special education school located in Imperial Beach. It is operated by the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) in affiliation with the South County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). Friendship School serves a maximum of 50 students, ages three (3) through twenty-one (21).
Each student has been identified as requiring an Individualized Education Program through a collaborative effort on the part of parents, local district representatives and SDCOE staff. Student disabilities include severe to profound cognitive and /or physical disabilities and require instruction in a structured setting with a small student/staff ratio. Friendship School classes are designed to provide instruction that is functional and essential to the future needs of the students. Many students are medically fragile and require specialized physical health care services in order to attend school.
The mission at Friendship School is to provide appropriate special education and related services to students with disabilities in order to promote development of their potential, and improve their motivation, achievement, and personal well-being.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must hold or be eligible for an Education Specialist Instruction Credential - mild/moderate
OR
hold a Basic California K-12 teaching credential and a California Special Education credential – learning handicapped credential preferred.
OR
hold a Valid Emergency Substitute Teaching Permit
Ability - Applicants must be able to plan, implement, and monitor the daily progress of students and supervise special education assistants in classroom programs.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
California law requires public educational employees to be fingerprinted for the purpose of a confidential background investigation. An applicant will be barred from employment if he or she has a prior conviction for a serious or violent felony as specified, unless the applicant has obtained a certificate of rehabilitation and pardon, or if for a serious felony, a court finding of rehabilitation.
Provisions of the Education Code require new employees to present evidence of freedom from tuberculosis.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Flexible work days, approximately 6.75 hours per day. Assignments are either day-to-day or long term.
LOCATION: Imperial Beach, South San Diego.
