Job Summary
The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Project Specialist, Mental Health for the Special Education Department/Unit of the Student Services and Programs Division.
Under administrative direction the Project Specialist, Mental Health, provides and coordinates educationally related mental health and behavioral services to students with special needs within the Juvenile Court and Community Schools, JCCS, participates in IEP team meetings, conducts School Based Mental Health assessments, and provides coordination of educationally related mental health services as a licensed qualified mental health professional to students with school administrators, probation staff and San Diego County contracted mental health providers. This role is responsible for overseeing systems, ensuring compliance, supporting providers, and maintaining the operational structure necessary for delivering consistent, legally compliant mental health services within highly dynamic environments.
This position will be primarily serve at the following locations:
SOAR Academy, Youth Transition Campus
SOAR Academy, East Mesa
Requirements / Qualifications
This position requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in psychology, social work, mental health counseling or related field; and two (2) years of experience in counseling and crisis intervention with children and adolescents in a mental health setting. Experience with alternative education settings preferred.

- Valid California Driver’s License
- Must be registered with one of the following California State licensing boards: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
- Resume, detailing education and experience as it relates to this position
- Letter of Introduction
- Two (2) Letters of Recommendation dated within the last year
- Copies of transcripts verifying Master's degree in psychology, social work, mental health, counseling, or related field.
- Copies of any certifications you wish to be considered
- Proof of registration with one of the following California State licensing boards: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
