What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dialysis Technician position at San Carlos Healthcare Corporation?
As directed and supervised by healthcare professional, performs a variety of activities to support and assist in provision of direct patient care in a dialysis setting in accordance with established program policies, standards, procedures and compliance with local, Tribal, state and federal regulations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- As directed and supervised by healthcare professional, collects and records a variety of routine pre-dialysis patient data including, but not limited to: vital signs, weight, general condition and special problems
- Prepares dialyzer and delivery system for use as prescribed
- Monitors equipment to ensure proper operations; notifies appropriate healthcare professional of equipment problems
- Makes safety checks on equipment; initiates and terminates hemodialysis treatment
- Consults with Registered Nurse regarding patient care; executes nursing care plan as directed and supervised
- Identifies and reports unusual findings or observations, clinical symptoms, behaviors and treatment reactions to appropriate healthcare professional
- As supervised by healthcare professional, administers hemodialysis medications to patients in accordance with physician orders
- Assists obtain lab work and tests as ordered by physician; assists prepare monthly lag tubes for patients
- Maintains current all records of medication and related health care provided in accordance with all applicable regulations, licensing requirements and standards
- Assists patient to and from dialysis station; may transports patient to and from other clinical areas for procedures
- Monitors patients during treatment by taking vitals; notifies appropriate healthcare professional of potential problems
- Performs visual inventory of stock items; re-orders standard items to provide for availability of supplies for optimum efficient unit operations
- Performs a variety of activities to provide for the ongoing maintenance of the unit’s environment
- Participates in a variety of in-services and unit meetings to maintain understanding of care plan changes
- Refers problems beyond standards of practice to Registered Nurse as appropriate
- Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
- Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor.
