What are the responsibilities and job description for the PRN - Medical Laboratory Assistant position at San Carlos Apache Healthcare and Careers?
THIS POSITION IS PER DIEM (PRN) or On Call or As Needed.
Assist technologists during lab tests and research, possess knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and equipment; duties include venipuncture, processing samples, classifying results, and recording findings.
Essential Functions:
- Assist and/or performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures
- Perform daily and preventive maintenance
- Reviews reports, accessions logs, computer generated reports and other information to ensure legibility, accuracy and timely delivery
- Perform daily quality control checks, maintenance and documents accordingly.
- Understands how to treat errors, QC failures and abnormal results appropriately.
- Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education programs and mandatory staff meetings and in-service training
- assists in preparing various reports to ensure timely and thorough data for patient treatment decisions
- Maintain clean, orderly and safe work area
- Acts as a resource for other phlebotomy team members.
- Collects blood specimens as ordered by venipuncture and capillary puncture in accordance with all safety and infection control procedures
- Greets patients and provides instructions to patients and patient’s family on proper specimen collection and aftercare
- Prepares and affixes labels to specimen vials to ensure proper identification
- Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
- Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent,
- Minimum 520 hours devoted specifically to the performance of clinical laboratory duties
- 1 year of experience in a lab environment’ One year of previous clinical experience such Medical Assistant, or related field, preferred.
