San Bernardino County Museum is seeking a dynamic, audience-centered professional to serve as its Curator of Visitor Engagement. This position will serve as a visitor advocate across all Museum divisions, sites, and projects, ensuring a seamless level of service, hospitality, and enjoyment in every museum interaction. The Curator of Visitor Engagement will develop and implement strategies to increase visitation and diversify audiences while also establishing clear visitor experience standards, policies, and procedures. A central responsibility will be creating and administering a comprehensive visitor survey program, analyzing results, and sharing insights with Museum leadership to inform decision-making.
This role requires close collaboration with the Curator of Education and Curator of Exhibits to integrate the visitor’s perspective into exhibitions and programming. Working alongside these colleagues, the Curator of Visitor Engagement will be responsible for curating the overall visitor experience ensuring that visitors’ experiences are meaningful, engaging, and inclusive. The position will also provide direct leadership for Guest Services and front-of-house operations. Responsibilities include recruiting, training, and supervising staff to deliver consistent, high-quality service. The Curator of Visitor Engagement will oversee the Museum Store as well, ensuring product selection reflects the Museum’s themes and mission while creating extended learning opportunities for visitors.
Although the position is stationed at the Museum’s main campus in Redlands, it carries responsibility for visitor experience at all San Bernardino County Museum sites. Regular travel throughout the County will be required.

Travel: Travel throughout the County is required, as incumbents will work at the various Museum sites throughout the County. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation.
Availability: Incumbents will be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience in a museum or cultural site, which included substantial visitor engagement experience AND two (2) years full time experience in museum program or exhibit development with a focus on interactive and participatory education. Experience may be concurrent.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional skills in customer service and audience development, with experience in a position requiring strategies to increase public engagement with children and families in an informal learning environment or attraction – museum experience preferred; as well as experience and strengths in cross department collaboration and supervision of frontline staff. Experience in a museum/not-for-profit environment with customer service is a plus.
