The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District is accepting applications for Ambulance Operator - EMTUnder the direction of the assigned Captain or Supervisor, these positions are responsible for operating an ambulance, responding to medical aid calls, providing basic medical care to the ill and injured, and providing patient transport services.

$69,122.56 - $78,208.00 including built-in overtime pay.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Health and Physical Condition: Persons seeking appointment to this classification must meet the safety, health, and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties established by the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District.

CPR Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR card.

State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid State of California EMT Certificate card.

Travel/Driver License: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained. Mileage reimbursement may be available.

Background:  Applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass a thorough background investigation which may include, but is not limited to, the following: fingerprinting for a Department of Justice criminal background check, DMV driving record check, military record check, reference checks, and review of prior employment history check. An applicant may be automatically disqualified for misrepresentation, falsification, or omission of pertinent facts in the screening/selection/background check process. Job offers are made contingent upon passing a medical examination. Applicant must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test. Failure to meet medical standards may result in the withdrawal of employment offer.

Work Location: Applicants must be willing to work anywhere within San Bernardino County. Positions will primarily be located at County Fire Stations.

Dress Code: All new employees must adhere to the provisions of the County Fire and Special Districts Dress Code, which prohibits visible tattoos.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform during high stress situations. Must possess the strength and stamina sufficient to lift and carry equipment and individuals. Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions.

Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
  1. Possess and maintain a CA EMT1 certification or greater OR a NREMT EMT-1 Certification, or greater.
  2. Possess and maintain a valid American Heart Association OR American Red Cross CPR Card and must be attached to your application.

Note:  Applicants must submit a high-quality copy of all required licenses and certifications with the application in order to be considered for this position.  


The department seeks candidates with excellent interpersonal skills who are able to deal effectively with persons who are ill/injured and under duress. Candidates must be able to remain calm under pressure, work well in a team environment, and maintain a high level of integrity.
Examination: There will be an in person proctored written exam based on National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) to evaluate candidate's knowledge and skills.
Exam Scheduled for September 14-16, 2026.
