THIS IS A CATEGORICALLY FUNDED POSITION. CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT IS BASED ON CONTINUED FUNDING.
San Bernardino Valley College is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution with a majority of our students identifying themselves as either African-American/Black or LatinX. We are seeking an individual to join our Student Services Department that is fully committed to transformational, culturally responsive education in a collegial and collaborative student-centered environment.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Counselor shall perform all regularly assigned duties that include academic, career, and personal counseling including follow-up services. Specific responsibilities include evaluating student transcripts, and assisting students with career decisions, on-line education planning which includes creating comprehensive student education plans, transfer guidance and course selection. Evening and some weekend work will be required as part of this position. Counselors work in an environment that requires the highest level of integrity, ethical practices, innovation, collegiality, teamwork, and adaptability to San Bernardino Valley College's campus culture in support of student success.
The overall AB1786 legislation requires an initiative to expand the use of course credit at the California Community Colleges for students with prior learning. Moreover, SB1071 requires the system to implement a consistent policy to award credit for veteran and military students using their Joint Services Transcripts (JST's).
The MAP/CPL Counselor Facilitator position is a categorically funded non-tenure position. The MAP/CPL facilitator shall organize and ensure accreditation standards regarding the Military Articulation Platform (MAP) and Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) state initiatives, and report at the end of each semester MAP/CPL data and progress of the initiative campus-wide (i.e., Academic Senate, Guided Pathways).
The MAP/CPL Counselor Facilitator will communicate on a regular basis to a variety of areas/constituents including and not limited to the following: Academic Senate, Guided Pathways, Curriculum, Student Services, Articulation officer, counselors, faculty, and evaluators.
On occasion, the MAP/CPL Counselor Facilitator may be assigned duties that include academic, career, and personal counseling including follow-up services regarding MAP/CPL, evaluating student transcripts (general and JST's), and assisting students with career decisions, on-line and face-to-face education planning which includes creating comprehensive student education plans, transfer guidance and course selection. Evening and some weekend work may be required as part of this position.
The MAP/CPL Counselor Facilitator will work across environments (A&R, VCR, Counseling, Instruction, Articulation officer, etc.) that requires the highest level of integrity, ethical practices, innovation, collegiality, teamwork, and adaptability to San Bernardino Valley College's campus culture in support of student success
Qualifications
Representative Duties: The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all the duties performed by the incumbent(s)of any particular position. 1.Ensure District's compliance with policy affecting prior learning and update policies as needed.
2. Coordinate academic and instructional practices.
3. Liaison between student services and instruction in terms of data collection and CPL on transcripts.
4. Coordinate between faculty, instruction, students and student services to create sections of CPL in Canvas as a temporary work-around for CPL transcription.
5. Collaborate with Articulation Officer and Transfer Center Director on practices related to CPL 6. Collaborate with faculty discipline experts to identify new credit for prior learning opportunities.
7. Ensure equitable assessments are taking place and portfolio review includes a department approved rubric on file Coordinate with Student Learning Outcomes Facilitation training to ensure outcomes are CPL friendly.

10. Coordinate CPL workflow - make the student process an easy one - create a form with ATRC for this.
11. Messaging to students and counselors CPL opportunities
12. Website development and maintenance
13. Developing and overseeing CPL Intake Survey
14. Resource for CPL ACE recommendations for military records
15. Collaborate with Norco College on the JST/ACE state-wide database.
16. Collaborate and share research and best practices with CCCCO and ASCCC and other community colleges on CPL effort.
Other duties may include the following: Performing liaison activities to service area high schools and the community; Serving as a liaison to instructional divisions; Assisting with the development of counseling related publications; Conducting student orientations and student success workshops; Participate in Counseling departmental meetings and activities including campus-wide activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling. (NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline. OR the equivalent*
Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and personnel.
