Salary: $55,000 annually

Job Summary:

The San Antonio Museum of Art seeks an innovative, collaborative, and audience-centered Manager of Adult and Public Learning. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Manager of Adult and Public Learning designs and delivers a robust suite of public programs, including lectures, film screenings, demonstrations, cultural performances, workshops, tours, social programs, and other offerings for adult audiences.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Education, the Manager of Adult and Public Learning develops the vision and strategy of respective programming areas to assure alignment with the collections, exhibitions, goals, and mission of the Museum.
  • Lead the development of the Museum’s suite of public programs, including public lectures, film screenings, artistic demonstrations and cultural performances, workshops, happy hours, game nights, etc. Oversees program implementation.
  • Coordinate event logistics and planning, including but not limited to scheduling, preparing contracts, making travel arrangements, booking audio-visual/technology support, purchasing and preparing supplies, and securing rentals.
  • Train volunteers and/or museum staff to lead specialized programs as they are developed.
  • Maintain positive and timely communication with the Museum’s facilities, events, visitor experience, and security staff, and external contractors to ensure that the program/event’s run-of-show is understood, and that space, equipment, and audio-visual needs are secured.
  • Manage program budgets and statistics, contribute to grant reports, and other administrative responsibilities as necessary.
  • Assess the effectiveness and the impact of programs and projects; make changes as necessary to serve the needs of audiences.
  • Support the education department and the Museum with tours, programs, and special projects as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to support SAMA’s strategic plan and education department goals.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, studio art, education, humanities or related field.
  • Minimum two years' experience developing and leading programs for culturally diverse audiences in a museum or similar arts or cultural environment.
  • Ability to develop strategic partnerships with scholars, artists, authors, speakers, community organizations, cultural institutions, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of learning styles, educational philosophy, teaching strategies, and multidisciplinary approaches in developing educational programming for adult audiences.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and public speaking skills, exceptional independent judgment and problem-solving, as well as strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; demonstrated ability to work well independently and on a team.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint). Previous experience with Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in art history, art education, studio art, education, humanities or related field.
  • Experience working with docents or volunteer educators.
  • Previous experience with Blackbaud Altru.
  • Previous experience with Django CMS.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Physical Requirements:

The physical requirements of the position described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform successfully.

  • Working onsite at a desk in a renovated historic building on a 12 acre campus.
  • Walking, bending, climbing, stooping, and lifting up to 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs and work in a multi-level building.
