SUMMARY:

The Education Intervention Program Specialist (EIP Specialist) uses a trauma-informed approach to provide leadership, curriculum intervention, and activity coordination for school aged children (ages 5-17) residing at SAMMinistries’ Transitional Living and Learning Center (TLLC). The EIP Specialist also leads coordination of after-school activities and directly provides care for children aged 5-12 attending the Children’s Enrichment Center (CEC), a licensed childcare facility operating within the TLLC. 

The EIP Specialist works closely with children AND their parents, as well as with local public school personnel, TLLC and CEC staff, other SAMMinistries staff, and organization volunteers. The EIP Specialist’s role focuses on building strong relationships with youth and with parents to support youth academic success, grade advancement, and healthy social development. To achieve this, the EIP Specialist helps educate parents regarding their rights and responsibilities related to public education; assists families with navigating public education processes; and helps youth and parents find solutions for challenges impeding educational success.   

The EIP Specialist also supports youth academic and social development by working directly with youth after school and during school breaks/summer; coordinating and facilitating youth activities; and communicating with staff, community partners, and volunteers to coordinate and assist directly with youth activities in the CEC, the TLLC Teen Center, and off-site. 

This position requires evening hours on a regular basis and will require occasional weekend hours.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate educational and enrichment activities. 
  • Coordinate and facilitate education intervention services/activities for school aged youth, including at least twice weekly evening programming. 
  • Comprehensively assess student educational needs and develop supportive service plans in collaboration with youth, families, schools, and TLLC Case Management staff. 
  • Track and monitor student attendance, academic progress, grades, and participation to measure program effectiveness and outcomes. 
  • Ensure compliance with state licensing requirements, agency policies, and program service standards. 
  • Foster positive, respectful relationships with children and families, encouraging parent engagement and involvement in education goals. 
  • Advocate for youth within the school systems, including coordination with district McKinney Vento liaisons. 
  • Collaborate with children’s enrichment center team to support staffing coverage, scheduling and program continuity. 
  • Plan and support youth enrichment activities, education-related events, and graduation or milestone events
  • Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive environment that supports children’s social, emotional, and academic development. 
  • Communicate effectively with families, staff, schools, and community partners. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, human services, or closely related fields.
  • Experience working with homeless or disadvantaged youth and families preferred. 
  • Familiarity with classroom management, youth development, and education support strategies. 

SKILLS:

  • Ability to make appropriate decisions and demonstrate professional and ethical judgment while working with vulnerable youth and families  
  •  Knowledge of trauma-informed care and developmentally appropriate practices. 
  • Must possess strong time management skills and ability to coordinate effectively and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks across multiple program areas and schedules.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with families, staff and partners. 
  • Knowledge of community resources and education systems. 
  • Ability to collect, track, and report program data and outcomes. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Bilingual (English and Spanish) is desirable but not essential. Must be able to write and verbally communicate professionally and effectively. Must demonstrate the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, organization volunteers, and community partners. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Capability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations. Must be able to interpret data used to evaluate client success.  

REASONING ABILITY:

Must be able to react swiftly and effectively in crisis situations. Must possess strong positive conflict resolution skills. Must be sensitive to dynamics and behaviors that may be associated with experiences of homelessness and other trauma. Must demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have a valid, unrestricted Texas Class C Driver’s License

Must also have a reliable vehicle with current registration and liability insurance 

PHYSICIAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Normal walking requirements include the ability to move in and around personal workspace and to and from other areas including walking up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, e.g. office equipment, file boxes, donations, etc.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position requires evening hours on a regular basis and will require occasional weekend hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work will take place primarily indoors, in climate-controlled spaces but activities will also regularly occur outdoors.
