About: SAGE (San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting economic development and cultural vitality of San Antonio’s Eastside. Through partnerships, programs, and community-driven initiatives, SAGE strengthens local businesses, promotes neighborhood assets, and advances corridor improvements that reflect the voices and priorities of Eastside residents and stakeholders.
Position Summary: The Engagement Specialist serves as SAGE’s primary liaison to Eastside residents, small businesses, and partner organizations. This role leads outreach and engagement efforts, builds and maintains relationships with business owners, community leaders, nonprofits, and media partners, and coordinates events and partner-driven initiatives that promote and highlight the Eastside. The Specialist collects and tracks community input and engagement data, translating community voice into actionable strategies that support corridor improvements and neighborhood vitality. The position also supports marketing initiatives, represents SAGE at community events, facilitates connections across the business and nonprofit community, and assists with grants, volunteer programs, and partner membership engagement. This is a grant-funded position.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead outreach and engagement with Eastside residents, small businesses, and community stakeholders, serving as SAGE’s primary liaison and representative at community meetings, events, and neighborhood initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners, community leaders, nonprofits, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Recruit businesses and community stakeholders for economic development initiatives and facilitate connections and networking across the Eastside community.
- Gather, monitor, and analyze community input through outreach, meetings, surveys, and events, track engagement data and report on program and event outcomes.
- Plan, coordinate, and support community events, business engagement activities, and partner-driven initiatives.
- Assist SAGE leadership with planning and executing programs that promote economic vitality and community engagement.
- Support marketing and promotional initiatives that highlight Eastside businesses, programs, organizations, and community events.
- Support partner membership engagement and help maintain strong relationships with SAGE partners and stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Essential Skills, and Experience:
- Familiarity with the Eastside community, local business landscape, and neighborhood organizations.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required; additional multilingual abilities strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience supporting small businesses, economic development initiatives, or community organizing and grassroots outreach.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work, manage multiple projects and competing demands under pressure.
- Detail-oriented with excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- High comfort level with ambiguity and evolving organizational priorities.
- Excellent judgment with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Satisfactory driving record, current Texas driver’s license, and access to daily use of a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle for frequent driving.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, or a related field.
- Experience working with or supporting small businesses and engaging in business and community outreach.
- Knowledge of local government processes, economic development programs, or community development programs.
- Strong public-facing and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Sales, relationship-building, or networking experience.
Work Schedule: This position is expected to work approximately 20–25 hours per week. The schedule is flexible, with some evening and occasional weekend hours required to attend community meetings, events, and outreach activities.

- $22-$29/hour, depending on experience.
- This is a grant-funded position and continued employment is contingent upon going funding.
