General Description: The primary objective of this position is to maintain and keep in good condition assigned assets of the San Antonio and New Braunfels Food Banks. The Grounds and Maintenance Technician will maintain the aesthetic and functional condition of the outdoor properties, including landscaping and grounds. They will also assist with other facility maintenance and janitorial duties.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains overall condition and maintenance of the grounds, equipment, and machinery of the San Antonio Food Bank and New Braunfels Food Bank.
- Assumes additional responsibility of building maintenance and cleanliness (i.e., offices, break rooms, meeting rooms, bathrooms, lobbies etc.)
- Set-up and break down of internal equipment for events.
- Mowing, edging, weeding, pruning, mulching, and planting trees, shrubs, and flowers.
- Operating power tools, mowers, tractors, and chainsaws, as well as maintaining irrigation systems.
- Raking leaves, clearing debris, emptying trash receptacles, and power washing surfaces.
- Applying fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides, while following safety regulations for handling hazardous materials.
- Paint and touch up inside and outside of buildings as needed.
- Seasonal duties such as preparing for snow/ice on walkways and parking lots; installing, maintaining, or repairing equipment, such as lighting or fences.
- Identifies and responds to broken or non-functioning items in a timely manner.
- Work with volunteers and AARP groups to assist with facility needs.
- Accepts additional duties as assigned.

- High School degree or equivalent.
- Previous work experience in grounds keeping required.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for long periods, including lifting over 50 lbs, bending, and working in varied weather conditions.
- Minor maintenance and some AC experience preferred.
- Proficiency with hand tools (rakes, shovels) and power equipment (tractors, blowers, chainsaws).
- Familiarity with landscaping techniques, plant care, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to travel between the San Antonio and the New Braunfels Food Banks.
- Experience driving and towing a trailer preferred.
