Landscaper/Mower

Summary: Under general supervision, the Lawn/Grounds Crew member performs a wide variety of groundskeeping and landscaping tasks to maintain clean, safe, and visually appealing outdoor areas across HASA’s properties. This role requires the ability to work independently, demonstrating a strong understanding of landscaping tools and equipment, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks year-round in varying weather conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Additional duties may be assigned.

• Receive written or verbal instructions from the Maintenance Manager, Lead MaintenanceTechnician, or Field Compliance Specialist.
• Perform all grounds maintenance, including mowing, edging, weed trimming, and blowing walkways in parking areas.
• Maintain landscaping: water, prune, fertilize, mulch, and weed trees, shrubs, flowers, and flowerbeds.
• Plant and maintain vegetation as needed.
• Assist in the preparation, testing, and cleaning of the pool at Desert Shadows Apartments.
• Collect and properly dispose of trash, debris, and refuse from common areas and grounds.
• Assist with removal of furniture and debris from vacated units and support other departments with moving furniture, unloading, and storing supplies.
• Transport lawn equipment and tools to worksites using trailers and HASA vehicles.
• Maintain appearance and mechanical condition of vehicles and lawn equipment.
• Report any unsafe conditions in units, common areas, or equipment (including HASA vehicles) to the Maintenance Manager, Lead Maintenance Supervisor, or Field Compliance Specialist.
• Assist with duties arising from natural or man-made disasters as directed by leadership.
• All duties related to the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) comply with FIRREA, RTC, and FDIC regulations.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills, and Responsibilities

• High school diploma or GED required
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Strong working knowledge of: lawn maintenance tools and equipment; gardening, landscaping techniques, and grounds care; safe handling of power tools and machinery used in mowing, trimming, and related tasks.
• Safety responsibilities: operate tools and equipment in accordance with all safety procedures; follow established safety protocols and techniques in the performance of job duties; correct unsafe conditions in the work area when possible and report uncorrectable hazards immediately; help maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe, operable condition; perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment.

• Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds regularly; 100 pounds occasionally (with assistance).
• Frequent activities include: standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and reaching; using hands for fine motor tasks (handling tools, devices); hearing, speaking, and detecting odors.
• Visual requirements include: close and distance vision; color and peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

• Moderate noise level typical of maintenance environments.
• Ability to maintain emotional control under stress and to work independently and with frequent interruptions.
