What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Procurement Manager position at Samuel Knight Energy & Infrastructure?
Samuel Knight Energy is supporting a leading commercial and industrial solar EPC that specialises in rooftop installations across the Northeast. As one of the most established names in the rooftop solar market, the company continues to grow a strong portfolio of projects, a highly capable engineering team, and a collaborative, supportive working culture.
They are now seeking a Procurement Specialist or Procurement Manager to join their Buffalo office. This is an in-person role and will suit someone who enjoys working closely with engineering, operations, and field teams. Solar experience is not required — strong experience in electrical or construction environments is highly transferable, and full support is provided to learn the solar-specific elements.
About the Role
The Procurement Specialist/Manager will own the full materials lifecycle for multiple rooftop solar projects. You’ll take plan sets from the engineering team, help create or validate Bills of Materials, liaise with vendors, and ensure equipment is sourced correctly, delivered on time, and aligned to code and project specifications.
Success in this role requires a practical understanding of how electrical or construction systems go together, the ability to read drawings, and a steady, solutions-focused temperament. Working closely with the engineering team, you’ll help ensure that equipment sizes, materials and specifications are accurate before orders are placed. You’ll also manage purchasing, receiving, inventory, and any material-related issues that arise during construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering to review plan sets and build accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Manage all purchasing and procurement activities for rooftop solar projects
- Ensure equipment, hardware, and materials selected comply with relevant code requirements
- Coordinate deliveries, inventory, and receiving across multiple jobs
- Resolve material issues quickly and communicate effectively with field teams
- Maintain vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, and manage RFQs
- Track material usage, lead times, and any changes to project scopes
- Support construction and engineering with proactive suggestions and problem-solving
Ideal Background
You do not need prior solar procurement experience. Candidates from the following backgrounds succeed well in this role:
- Electrical construction (field, foreman, apprentice, estimator, or coordinator)
- Commercial or industrial construction environments
- Electrical/MEP procurement, purchasing, or materials coordination
- Construction estimating or material takeoff experience
- Any role that includes reading drawings and understanding how systems install in the field
What You’ll Bring
- Ability to read electrical or construction drawings
- Practical understanding of how materials install and how systems fit together
- A steady, calm temperament with strong communication skills
- Ability to negotiate pricing and manage vendor relationships
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to pivot quickly and solve problems in real time
- Willingness to be fully on-site in Buffalo
