Description
General
The Data Analyst III is responsible for collecting, assessing, reporting and providing insights on data collected in relation to safety and security operations of the San Mateo County Transit District(SamTrans) and Peninsula Joint Powers Board (Caltrain). The Data Analyst III will plan, organize, and oversee analytics projects that provide actionable data for operational and safety-related decision making.
Essential Functions & Duties
Process and analyze data collected from various departments, vendors, ensuring data quality and cleanliness from many potential integration points.
Analyze safety data and information to discover and report on trends and patterns.
Create data models to monitor the ongoing performance and quality data and analyses.
Recommend solutions to trends and patterns to leadership and stakeholders.
Managing projects including system integrations to support initiatives.
Participate in internal and external working groups to improve safety.
Examples of Essential Duties:
Develop the requirements for databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize efficiency and data quality.
Interpret data and analyze results using statistical techniques to provide ongoing reports.
Present information to internal and external stakeholders including data models, trends, and pattern analysis to create actionable insights.
Evaluate and propose improvements to safety systems, data collection, and reporting.
Develop and review safety reports, dashboards, and information artifacts for data integrity.
May oversee interns or contractor staff.
Provide recommendations to implement and use Safety Management Software.
Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Information Management, Statistics or a closely related field.
Three (3) years of full-time working experience in a data analysis role.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Experience with data analytics tools in a professional setting (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.)
Experience with project management.
The ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Public safety experience.
