Migrant Education Tutor
Job Description
Purpose: The Migrant Education Tutor provides educational services and support to migrant students and their families as well as supports the overall Migrant Education Program. This person will report to the Director of Federal Programs.
Essential Functions:
- Provide migrant educational services and support, mainly in the form of tutoring, to migrant students.
- Provide tutoring services at school, migrant homes, and other available and appropriate locations.
- Monitor and review student progress.
- Assist with translating documents and interpreting from MEP families when needed.
- Assist with on-site visits from local farms during peak agricultural seasons to identify and recruit new migrant out-of-school (OSY) youth.
- Work with the Lead Migrant Recruiter/Data Specialist to meet migrant student needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Needed
- Strong knowledge of MEP eligibility requirements
- A solid knowledge of local agricultural and processing sites
- A solid knowledge of language spoken by migratory workers and their families
- A solid knowledge of cycles of seasonal employment
- A solid knowledge of local growers’ companies
- A solid knowledge of local roads and locations where migrants typically reside
- A solid knowledge of MEP services offered by local agencies
- A solid knowledge of other agencies that can provide services to migratory workers and their families, such as Migrant Health, Migrant Labor, WIC, and Migrant Head Start
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills

Requirements:
Minimum of 48 credit hours or Associate of Arts/Sciences or higher
Valid NC driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle daily
