LEAD MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST

Assumes responsibility for the performance of routine, standardized biological and/or biochemical test procedure as well as more complex or developmental procedures on blood, urine, tissues, body fluids and other specimen sources that help physicians in the diagnosis and clinical management of patients. Assumes responsibility for actively contributing to the section's productive and cost effectiveness. Assumes responsibility for recognizing results or problems that require referral to Section Supervisor, Pathologist or Laboratory Manager.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or sciences. Knowledge of specialized principles or techniques which would normally be obtained through a formal four year college/university academic program.

Minimum Experience Requirement:

Must rotate and be approved by lab supervisor in each of the sections of the clinical laboratory. Must demonstrate knowledge of growth and developmental needs of the various age groups to which service is provided and demonstrate ability to deliver diagnostic procedures effectively. Previous experience in a health care environment preferred. Proficient in the use of a personal computer including word processing. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to independently take initiative and exercise good judgment in decision-making. Ability to work efficiently and

effectively under deadline pressures and to simultaneously handles multiple projects. Professional maturity that daily sets the tone in carrying out the responsibilities of the position. High degree of honesty, integrity and confidentiality. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to undertake new responsibilities as assigned. Lead/Weekend - At least 6 years experience as a Medical Technologist.

Minimum License Requirement:

Registry with a board of registry for medical technology, such as American Society of Clinical Pathologists required, or meets standards set forth by the State of New York.
