What are the responsibilities and job description for the WARD CLERK - Emergency Room position at Samaritan Hospital?

Position summary: Registration of patients, obtaining consents, maintaining log books, managing the telephone traffic, faxing, copying, and overall organization of Emergency Room patient records and documents, assisting with patient flow and entering charges and checking them for accuracy and completeness.
General purpose: To coordinate and organize patient information, testing, results and charges and other clerical duties as required or requested
Role qualifications:
Education
- Currently attending high school or otherwise obtained high school diploma or equivalent (preferred) and in accordance with Samaritan Hospital Personnel Manual directive
Experience
- At least 1 year or more of clerical experience preferred
Licenses/Certificate
- None
Position responsibilities:
- Registration of patients with current and accurate demographic information
- Maintain ER log books
- Manage telephone traffic in a professional and customer service oriented manner
- Obtain consent and other signatures as required without delaying patient care and apply ID bands to each patient
- Organize medical records
- Enter charges/requests into the computer, check charges for accuracy
- Copy and fax patient records and also retrieve them from medical records as requested
- Perform other miscellaneous tasks as requested by ER staff
- Make sure that patient’s and their families are kept informed about patient status and/or any delays in treatment and that this information is documented on the patient record
Essential skills and experience:
- Must be able to read and write
- Must be able to communicate via telephone and radio
- Must have typing skills and computer knowledge
- Must be able to meet the physical abilities requirements
