Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for safely operating various types of vehicles, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, to transport passengers efficiently and securely. Your expertise in traffic laws, vehicle safety regulations, and customer service will ensure a smooth and positive experience for all passengers. Duties
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations
- Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, boarding, and disembarking to ensure comfort and safety
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and first aid when necessary
- Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective English or bilingual communication skills
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle condition, including checking vehicle codes, emergency stop procedures, and heavy lifting requirements
- Enforce student discipline policies and behavior management techniques during transit to promote a safe environment
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected situations with defensive driving skills to ensure timely arrivals
Experience
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation with a valid CDL license
- Knowledge of transportation safety regulations, traffic laws, and vehicle codes applicable at the state and local levels
- Experience working with children or senior care populations is highly desirable
- Familiarity with student discipline strategies and behavior management techniques
- Multilingual abilities or proficiency in additional languages are a plus for serving diverse communities
- Strong communication skills for interacting effectively with passengers, colleagues, and emergency responders
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for vehicle maintenance or passenger assistance
