Duties
- Safely operate different types of waste collection trucks such as front loader, rear loader, and automated Side-Load trucks, following established routes and schedules
- Load, unload, and secure waste materials efficiently while adhering to hazardous materials regulations and safety standards
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections to ensure mechanical reliability and compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and state transportation laws
- Follow traffic laws diligently, practicing defensive driving techniques to ensure safety for yourself and others on the road
- Interact professionally with customers during pickups, providing excellent customer service and addressing any concerns or questions
- Maintain accurate logs of daily routes, loads, and disposal activities in accordance with municipal waste management protocols
- Perform heavy lifting and manual loading tasks as required while prioritizing safety protocol adherence
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement; experience with manual transmission preferred
- Proven experience operating front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, or roll-off trucks in a municipal or commercial setting
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws, DOT regulations, hazardous materials handling, and heavy equipment operation
- Demonstrated ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently in outdoor environments
- Excellent driving record with a focus on defensive driving skills; experience with route driving and delivery driving preferred
- Mechanical knowledge of garbage trucks and related equipment to assist with basic troubleshooting and maintenance
- Commitment to safety protocol adherence, including compliance with hazardous materials regulations and state transportation laws
