Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Maintains merchandise presentation by stocking merchandise, setting up, cleaning, and organizing product displays, removing damaged goods, signing and pricing merchandise appropriately, and securing fragile and high-shrink merchandise. Maintains the sales floor in the Optical area in accordance with company policies and procedures by properly handling claims and returns, zoning the area, arranging and organizing merchandise, and identifying shrink and damages. Receives and stocks merchandise in the Optical area. Organizes and maintains the Optical area by following company procedures, utilizing equipment appropriately, merchandising, and completing paperwork, logs, and other required documentation.  As needed, receives, audits and maintains hearing aid inventory and processes sales and refunds through the POS system. Operates hardware (for example, cash registers or related equipment), processes member purchases, and assists in payments, returns, refunds, and exchanges using appropriate procedures for different membership and payment types.

Educates members on eyewear usage and care and supports contact lens insertions, removals, and hygiene guidance. Sells Optical products and services by assisting members with purchasing decisions, measuring, adjusting, and repairing frames and lenses, completing eyewear/contact lens orders, and identifying and verifying prescription information.  Accurately measures pupillary distance and position of wear for various lens types, including bifocal, trifocal, occupational, and progressive lenses, using manual and digital systems. Performs frame adjustments and repairs and completes final inspection of eyewear prior to dispensing. Troubleshoots member non-adapt issues and communicates with labs and optometrists regarding job status and product updates. Processes optical eyewear and contact lens orders, monitors trial lens inventory, and ensures calibration and cleanliness of optical equipment. Performs final inspection of eyewear, including compound prism verification and troubleshoots non-adapt issues. Communicates with labs and optometrists regarding job status, product updates, and reordering expired lenses. Troubleshoots equipment failure issues and coordinates repairs. As needed and under guidance of the contracted or associate optometrist,  completes patient appointments performs pre-testing, and records results.  Embraces the utilization of new and existing technology while supporting OD services.  Collects payments for doctor/telehealth services.

Processes member visits by scheduling and confirming appointments, following company policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.

Maintains and files records in compliance with HIPAA and company procedures. Requests, reviews, and processes insurance claims and payments for doctor services where applicable OD services are contracted. Requests, reviews, and processes insurance claims, payments, and chargebacks for eye care materials.

Completes assigned virtual and hands-on trainings, including those necessary to acquire and maintain required certification and licensure, as applicable. Develops intermediate knowledge of eye anatomy and diagnostic testing. Participates in internal development opportunities to enhance technical and service capabilities. Where applicable by state regulations, registers with state board for apprenticeship or permit to work within 60 days. Ensures no lapse in registration or certification.

The hourly wage range for this position is $18.00 to $26.00*

*The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location.

Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications...

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent upon job entry or within 12 months of hire in order to sit for American Board of Opticianry (ABO) exam. Meet the requirements to work as an Optical associate (for example, minimum age, qualification, registration, certification, and/or licensure when required by the Optical organization and/or by State Boards of Opticianry, as applicable.)
Must obtain American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification within 15 months of hire or job entry. Willingness and ability to work with Manager to register and maintain own NPI number as required by state law.
Licensed/Registered States Only: Meets or can satisfy state law requirements to become an apprentice optician and licensed optician. Must obtain state-required optician licensure within 18 months of hire or job entry for full-time associates, unless the applicable state licensure requirements mandate additional training hours. Must complete all applicable state licensure requirements and obtain optician licensure within 3 months of completing the minimum apprenticeship hours required by the state.
